We've spent the weekend decorating our bedroom in Laura Ashley's <a href="http://www.lauraashley.com/wallpapers/martha-hollyhock-wallpaper/invt/3519600/">Martha Hollyhock</a> wallpaper and a lovely shade of blue called 'favourite china'. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I absolutely love the wallpaper, In my mind it seems to sit neatly somewhere between a 1950s illustrative print and a <a href="http://homeshoppingspy.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/trottersflat.jpg">Del Boy style</a> bamboo print!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Here's a little close up of the paper next to the first wall to be painted.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Our room is still in need of a door handle so you have to claw your way out of the room.<br />
We also need to find/buy/aquire a bedside table for james so we can return the 'daddy' of the nest of tables to it's home in James' dad's house!</div>

The blue wall seemed the perfect home for the lovely bevelled edge mirror i found years ago in house clearance for mere pennies!</div>

Sorry for my absence recently, we've been very busy moving house and doing all the important things like painting the kitchen green and shed purple!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We'd collected so much furniture and bits and bobs between our various houses that by the time we'd got it all in the new house it was filled with things and felt like home pretty quickly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't quite believe we actually own it, I still find myself walking from room to room feeling proud of it! [That said, there are some rooms I am not as proud of, the C1970 avocado bathroom and the studio/packed boxes room, to name two]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The new house is in Stirchley/Kings Heath, Birmingham which is a happy little place with lots of charity shops and nice pubs.</div>

I've been hoarding 'small things' for ages and they've been looking for a home. The printer's tray that J bought me for my birthday will provide a perfect home, as well as giving me even more of an excuse to buy 'small things'.<br />
<br />
Dad has given me this lovely old Watch Oil bottle which he says was his dad's [ I think he used to make clocks as a bit of a hobby]. It's branded J.D. Windel, and has such a funny little label that i had to draw it.<br />
<br />
Also in my collection of 'small things' is this little box which neatly follows the watch maker theme. I found it in a charity shop in Kingsbridge last summer. and still contains 3 of the original 'watch pins for hair springs'.Kate Wardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04912691761356633614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441484888736354788.post-64972704745392915982012-06-18T17:01:00.003+01:002012-06-18T17:01:28.665+01:00Charity shop treasures<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

At the moment days off work seem to always end up with me shopping. Today was no exception; I nipped into to Age UK and bought a burgundy belt with a little gold buckle, a snap bracelet with an inlayed bird scene, and a shiny gold & cream button which will surely be adorning something soon! and all for just £1!</div>

As a little housewarming present I did an embroidery based on an extract from the book 'The ABC of Flower Growing' which I had found in a charity shop a few months ago, all damaged and mildew-ey it was a perfect source of inspiration. I mounted it in an old frame I found and its been displayed pride of place in their new kitchen, on the cider mill.</div>

<div>
Last night we went along to Papergirl Night at 48 Sheet in the Mailbox.</div>
<div>
It was a lovely evening and it was good to finally get to see everyone else's submissions to such an open brief. There was lots of illustrations, photographs, prints and etchings - infact, an enormous mix!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The work was creatively curated in areas throughout the space alongside customised bicycles, projections and small hands-on-project areas [including a spirograph workbench!].</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There was tea served in eclectic mix-matched cups, homemade cakes and sweets.<br />

I shaped them and dried them in the oven. I got over excited and ruined a few by drying [*cooking] them on too high a heat which made them bubble up a bit!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">They didn't dry in time for me to decorate on the day so I left them overnight to dry fully, and then managed to forget about them completely until today. </div><div style="text-align: left;">So today I've decorated them, varnished them and suspended them off ribbon and they are now adorning the house in a very festive fashion.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ognhzAa8_Mo/Tu51anCY52I/AAAAAAAABFc/cbNJycQ7qo8/s320/IMG_4808.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687612479431567202" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /><div style="text-align: center;">Here they are before going in the oven. <br /></div><div>I allowed myself a little wander about and only spent £1.50 in total on a lovely little wind-up gold watch for 50p [which amazingly keeps perfect time!] these old haberdashery cards and a slightly ridiculous mug commemorating the engagement of Prince Charles and Lady Di from 1981. J did not like the mug as much as I did.</div>Kate Wardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04912691761356633614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441484888736354788.post-68814197266349886172011-08-18T16:07:00.002+01:002011-08-18T16:20:15.081+01:00Charity shopping: Claret coloured tea glasses<div style="text-align: center;">

Needless to say, for 50p each, I snapped them up!<div>
<br /><div>I'm not sure how old they are, I suspect quite old because J's Granddad has some almost identical in blue. The glasses themselves I think are a mix of two sets, half are Pyrex and the other half say 'JTJ Made in England' on the base. They'll look lovely in the new flat!</div></div><div>
<br /></div><div>I also bought a pair of knitting needles for my lovely friend Jess who I'm teaching to knit for 20p and a beautiful pair of old Roland Cartier shoes for £2. Unfortunately the shoes are size 38.5 so aren't for keeps, but someone will love them I'm sure!</div>Kate Wardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04912691761356633614noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3441484888736354788.post-68247641619410800742011-08-11T00:15:00.005+01:002011-08-11T00:35:36.577+01:00Trowbridge Textile and Weaving Festival<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jJ6_GVdPAyI/TkMTssMIbjI/AAAAAAAAA-M/hU0PzeXTjbc/s1600/IMG_3864.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jJ6_GVdPAyI/TkMTssMIbjI/AAAAAAAAA-M/hU0PzeXTjbc/s320/IMG_3864.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639372816895209010" /></a>

<br /></div>Yesterday I had a lovely sunny day going to set up my work in the exhibition at Trowbridge Museum for the Trowbridge Textile and Weaving Festival.<div>[Also a welcome excuse to go and stay and have dinner with my lovely friends in Bristol! An opportunity not to be missed]</div><div>
<br /></div><div>The 'Apothecary Bottles' were carefully placed in next to all the old pharmaceutical bits and bobs in the cabinet containing all of the remnants of Aplin's Chemist.</div><div>I am just delighted with how well the piece fits in with the rest of the collection!</div><div>
<br /></div><div>I'll be back to see the finished exhibition in full when I return to run my series of workshops at the end of the month.</div><div>All the details of the workshops and festival events are listed <a href="http://www.trowbridgemuseum.co.uk/documents/WeavingFestivalleafletforWeb.pdf">here</a> in the brochure.</div><div>

I was pleased to get a phone call from Liz Clay who asked me to submit an application for membership and I was delighted to be accepted. It's a really exciting society to be a part of and will hopefully give way to opportunities in the future! Lovely.Kate Wardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04912691761356633614noreply@blogger.com1
